 A Mothers Story

On Easter Sunday April 4th 2010 my only son and child was victimized on the east side streets of      Baltimore. There were two assailants one of which grabbed him by his     tee-shirt and stabbed him in his back in attempts to rob him of his motor bike.   Because he was riding his motor bike at the time of the assault, he was able ride away from the stabbing only then to be shot in the back by the second   assailant. Realizing he had been shot he made an attempt to make it to his grandmother’s house     traveling at a record speed of up to 80 miles per hour going in the wrong direction on a one way street.  When he reached the intersection, he crashed head on into a vehicle waiting at the red light.  Paramedics were called and he was rushed to                      John Hopkins Hospital.

I received the phone call approximately 6pm that evening and for the next five days I was kept from seeing my son for reasons the Baltimore City Police Department could not  explain nor make me understand.

He suffered  multiple life threatening injuries as well as facial  lacerations and damage to his teeth and gums.  His teeth were actually left in the windshield.  He also underwent open body lung surgery having parts of left lung removed.  The bullet that could have taken my sons life is still today lodged inside his chest.

For the first five days of being in the hospital he laid suffering and fighting for his life without any contact from family, friend's, or love one.

Today I am still incapable of expressing how much sorrow filled my heart during that time.  With each passing day I watched the news and learned of the many killings that took place after my son's shooting.

"I cried for those mothers who lost their children and prayed for healing”.
